Anode qualification is the slow step in ex-China graphite plans

Building a purification plant is capital. Qualifying its output in a cell is time.

graphiteanodesqualification

Natural graphite anode material must be qualified within a specific cell design, and that qualification takes cell makers between twelve and thirty months. Announcements of ex-China purification capacity therefore translate into supply-chain change on a delay that policy timelines rarely account for.

The practical consequence is that graphite independence is a late-decade outcome even where the capital is already committed.
