How far can Europe get toward rare earth independence?

Europe has deposits, low-carbon power and magnet demand. It lacks separation.

rare earthseuropepolicy

European rare earth ambitions rest on a small number of deposits, principally in Sweden, and on magnet manufacturing capacity being rebuilt in Estonia, Germany and France. The missing link is separation at commercial scale.

Under realistic timelines, Europe can supply a meaningful share of its light rare earth magnet demand in the 2030s. Heavy rare earths remain a longer and harder problem.
